Meet The Team

Marty, the circus performer, is unicycling and preparing to use devil sticks during the outdoor 'beach jam' performance at Souter, near South Shields. He is dressed in his signature patchwork tails and red trilby hat.

Marty

Marty has always had an interest in ‘the unusual’ as well as his pursuit of balance-based activities and sports such as skating and various watersports. His passion for unicycling began in 1989 and soon led him to explore more juggling-based activities. His unicycling has featured in many performances while studying for a BA (Hons) Performing Arts degree in 2005. This study experience was also valuable in delivering themed group work and facilitating workshops within the community. Marty's performance career and CBeebies feature were recently highlighted in the Sunderland Echo newspaper. He has featured on television in a BBC CBeebies production called My First Circus.

Emma, a core member of Circurama, demonstrating her multi-hooping expertise. She is joyfully spinning multiple colourful hula hoops, showcasing her professional circus skills.

Emma

Emma has worked in a touring circus show and is a hula hooper and aerialist; her passion is aerial rope. After touring, she returned home to Sunderland to work with Circurama, as well as working freelance and running her own aerial circus club called Bloom Aerial. Here she runs community classes for both adults and children. Her favourite performance was Jack’s Journey, an aerial rope interpretation about Sunderland’s historical figure, Jack Crawford. This was performed for The Tall Ships in Sunderland, whilst dangling from the mast of one of the ships.

A second commented upon how her daughter had “enjoyed the session and also made new friends“.

A third described how amazed she was that her daughter had “performed in front of 180 people“ at the Pride Awards Event night, as she is usually very shy and introverted.

"We love welcoming Marty. He always delivers a fun-filled day of juggling, balancing, plate spinning and more. Our children had a fantastic day learning new skills and spending time with their friends!"

True Colours Theatre CIO Foundation.

“Marty has been working with us for nearly 3 years now. The children all know him, trust him and thoroughly enjoy his club. They especially like it when he comes in to lead our annual circus theme days. Everyone gets dressed up in circus outfits including all the staff. Circus Theme Day is a creative, fun part of our exciting curriculum. Everyone learns, is challenged and has a huge smile all day.”

Mr. M Bell, Headmaster, Shotley Bridge Infants School, County Durham

“Hi Marty! Thanks for another great session yesterday... it went really well and I can see their continued interest and improvement in using the equipment. I think part of the success is to keep on making it more challenging for them, i.e. higher stilts. Anyway, well done... I have just been telling my boss about how well it is going... See you Thursday.”

Mick O Brien, Barnados Project Leader, Blyth, Northumberland
